I just received an email from the WSL’s own SVP Tours and Head of Competition Jessi Miley – Dyer. Here is the email.
This means the Wozzle is opening up the Surf Ranch, as well as other “wave basins” using Kelly Slater Wave Systems technology, to Pro Juniors, QS events, and the Longboard tiers. Exciting times to be an up-and-comer.
One thing strikes the mind: how much is it going to cost to get into one of these contests? The average cost for a QS is rumored to be about $400US. The wave pool itself is supposedly rented out between $50-$70K. With the presumed 96 man field for a QS, that would work to around $520 per surfer for the Woz to make what they do leasing the joint to private parties, on the low-end. Is ELO willing to eat some of his “record breaking revenue” to put on a show at the Surf Ranch? Time will tell.
Thanks for tuning in. Back to your scheduled program.
Cheers,
hwilsin
